EMS recertification in Florida

Florida EMTs and paramedics are certified by the Florida Department of Health on a two-year cycle, and all certificates expire on December 1 of even-numbered years. Renewals are completed online through Florida Health Source, and your continuing education is tracked in CE Broker.

To recertify, EMTs must complete a 30-hour refresher that includes at least two hours of pediatric emergencies and hold a current CPR certification (your CPR course may count toward the 30 hours). Paramedics must complete a 30-hour refresher that includes at least two hours of pediatric emergencies and hold a current ACLS certification. Either level may instead pass the state certification examination during the current cycle. Certificates not renewed by the expiration date are placed on involuntary inactive status, and a certificate not reactivated within four years becomes null and void.
